I CAN'T NOT MAKE GAMES.

I have enough lockerspace to hold an episode of Friends.

"We'll make a toast to absent friends and better days,
To remembering and being remembered as brave
And not as a bunch of whining jerks!

Don't lose your nerve.
Do not go straight
You must testify
(or I'm going to come to your house and punch you in the mouth)
cause CLOWNS MUST STAND."

What are you listening to?

The cars going by on the highway and the growing pulse of my own suicidal depression. :'(

And no, that is not the name of a band. ;D

Questions you always wanted to ask other members, but felt too lazy or awkward to do so.

Seconded.

Also, I use the same (basic) method of hiding it as Blitzen/Babley. I mean, the folder is also hidden.

I don't really know why I bother hiding it, no one I know would really give a shit if they found it...

Hey.

some of my goals is to create a website to review existing home-made games

This is an incredibly noble goal, and I'm not buttering you up for anything this time, honestly. Do you plan on focusing on well-known homebrew games or the more obscure ones? Long, scholarly critiques or short, capsule reviews?

Anyway, as I said earlier, welcome to RMN! Post lots!

5 Most Common Writing Pitfalls

Hello and welcome to RMN! I am that guy who e-mailed you re: your (same) article on GW. (Regarding the post-script of my e-mail, my Release Something demo and dump, Mage Duel and Shadowrun: Missions, respectively, are not the best examples of my writing/game design, just the most recent and the only ones that can be found on this site). You can also find real life evidence of me bitching about my unemployment basically all over this website's forums.

Anyway, I still look forward to getting your complete response (via e-mail, please) to my e-mail query. I'm not stalking you or anything, I just post here A LOT.

You're BloodyAsura on GW, right? I like you articles, keep them coming. Also, try not to listen to some any of the morons on GW.

Also, this.

[Demo] MAGE DUEL

Reminder:
It would really be awesome if Craze/bobthebobish/secretseeker/GreatRedSpirit/ChaosProductions/anyone who has posted here could make a Mage Duel topic at Gamingw. I would appreciate it and say thank you. If not, I can live.

I named him Yalex(ander; I don't remember if I used just Yalex or the full name).

I'll go with Yalexander, since in the game you uh, did just fight an enemy named Alex (Act I Boss) and I feel like potentially fighting Alex and Yalex within two fights of each other would be weird.

Also, an enemy with Revitalize? That's awesome

Well one of my major priorities is making sure that enemies use a wide array of different "strategies" (I do as much with "Artificial Intelligence" as RMVX's DBS allows, I even let enemies "cheat" by using certain abilities depending on your class, which switches flipped at character creation). So at least one enemy should be using every skill and combination of skills in the game.

(I still need to finish the last five fights of the demo... tomorrow afternoon's mission, go!)
YES, PLEASE DO.

Finally took this for a test run tonight! I thought overall the overall idea and execution of said idea was great. The very limited amount of area that one plays around in is well mapped and detailed which is a major plus considering how little exploration there is. This reminds me of the old PC game Dark Sun (at least the beginning of it) which is a very good thing. Balance was most likely a nightmare on this and overall I think you did admirably in that I was challenged but not throwing things at the screen! Tongue

Now its on to the nit picks and these are small nits that I am picking mind you. The first thing is that the intro's to fights are to long. Perhaps making the screen pans faster and including more angles would help, it was interesting the first time but after that it just drew things out a bit to long.
Second nit has to do with character development. It felt like my character was developing to slowly or, without items not at all. Perhaps adding in some single cast scrolls might help without overly tipping balance in the players favor.
My final nit to pick is the opening character generation. I think having a basic menu here would be nice to have here to speed things along and be able to provide all the info for a class/spell without selecting it first. The system is functional now I'd just say revamp and make it awesome-sauce so to speak.

This has a ton of promise and game play wise I had a blast just trying new strategies on certain matches. This is what is missing in lots of RPG's amateur and professional alike, the game play has to be more than mash attack! Thank you for this gem of a demo!

Thanks for the encouragement, Bob! As for the intros, I might speed them up and/or vary them in the future acts.

Character development does happen; it shouldn't be possible to complete the demo without at least reaching Level 3 and it should be possible to reach as high as Level 5 or 6 within the demo. Single-cast scrolls is a great idea and I will probably implement it, once I think of a cool enough way of handling it.

One of the things in my opening post mentions that I would like someone to spiff up my CMS. I still would, but pretty (i.e. Show Picture) CMS are beyond my capabilities.

Anyway, once again, thank you for the feedback!

What are you upset or worried about?

My best friend is in hospital at the moment.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. How serious is it?

Battlecharset request and charset.

If you finish the four directional poses of the character sprite, I will take a crack at making a battle charset out of it, just for practice.

But I can't finish the sprite, is the problem, although I am fairly adept at editing RTP style charsets into battle charsets even if people say they suck.

The Mirror Lied

*This is not in the "horror" genre. Try not to miss the birdy.

This simultaneously peaked my interest and quashed it. NOT, you say? Praytell what genre IS this in? It looks extremely creepy to me.

I know, I know, I could take the fifteen minutes to play it and find out, and I probably will, but just humor me! :)

What are you thinking about right now?

Post demo release rut. That period where you just sit on your ass and wait for feedback is essentially done; now I just need to pry myself away from the embrace of laziness and get back to work. Well, I was initially waiting for the podcast to come out before I continued; but who knows when that's coming SO tomorrow will be the day.

Yeah, I agree with this; my progress on Mage Duel has come to kind of a stand still. The difference in this case is that I've kept chugging away on my other project.
